Anders Lasater Architects

What makes us distinctive is our focus on the fundamental assets of great architecture -

Space, Proportion, Light and Material ģ, in that order.

There is a temptation to concentrate on materials first, but when we manage space, proportion, and light correctly, the materials tend to fall into place naturally.

Anders Lasater Architects is an award winning architectural studio specializing in custom homes, galleries, salons, restaurants, fashion and other boutique retail and commercial projects.

We seek to find a quiet resolution to each project where modern materials and innovative spatial relationships converge into unique solutions that ideally suit our clientís needs.

Our work reaches across coastal Orange County into Palm Springs, the mountain resorts of California, and to the Big Island of Hawaii, finding a unique resolution in each location, tailored to its place, its time, and its users.

Cornelio Residence
Without a doubt, Anders is one of the best architects I've worked with. He has the rare combination of great design talent and an amiable personality that makes working with him a joy. I'm consistently impressed with his ability to create not only a stunning home design but also a total vision for the home, helping to ensure that each project moves effectively toward the exceptional finish he expects. - Steve, Builder

From the moment we met him, we knew Anders was the architect for us. He understood our design and family goals. He greeted the challenge of coordinating a large project for long-distance clients (we live out-of-state) with enthusiasm and confidence. No detail was too small to merit Andersí personal attention. We would happily work on another project with Anders and his team anytime! - Dara, Homeowner

Turtlerock Residence
Our vision was a Mid-Century Modern home that was livable, organic, and simple but also sexy. It needed to be playdate-ready for our toddler, but transform easily into a home for sophisticated adult entertaining. Through attentive listening and creating thinking Anders created a timeless home that simultaneously met our budget and achieved the mid-century modern style of our dreams. We would no doubt work with Anders again. - Sally, Homeowner

Anders takes his role as the architect very seriously and, as a builder, I really appreciate his involvement from start to finish. He is always just a phone call away, and whatever information I need, I know that I can get it quickly and effectively. I also know that our clients really appreciate his ability to balance good design with construction costs. - Jeff, Builder

Fordiani Residence
Anders executed a beautiful project for us here in Hawaii. He interpreted all of our wishes and beyond, and diligently followed up to make sure this dream became a reality. Anders' outgoing, easy -to -get- along -with personality, great work ethic and amazing creative talent made even changes pleasant. He and his family remain our friends for life. - Sheri, Homeowner

Sunset House
Anders and his team helped us start to finish with an extensive home remodel in Laguna Beach. He demonstrated superb efficiency, execution and professionalism. He worked swiftly to submit all planning documents and meet deadlines and responded quickly to all questions and challenges as they arose. He guided us expediently through each of the planning, design review, permitting, and construction phases and remained involved in all aspects of the project until completion. His architectural talent ensured that our vision was realized in a beautifully designed yet family friendly home. We truly enjoyed our experience working with Anders. - Eric, Homeowner

Linden Residence
Anders' talent is unparalleled! We built a 2800+ square foot Laguna Beach "contemporary cottage" from the ground up, and from concept to completion (in record time) the process was sheer perfection. It is our dream home. Each and every room takes full advantage of space and light, and the overall look of our home fits in beautifully with our neighborhood. Although we would never part with our home, we would do it all over again! In combination with Bob Rubel, our designer, we truly had the dream team. Congratulations to Anders and his team for a job beyond well done. We are forever grateful. - Susan, Homeowner

Hykes Residence
Anders & his team helped us to remodel a 1970's tract home in Dana Point, CA. He is incredibly talented and very creative. The project was a very good experience (we've done 3 remodels to date and know how trying these can be). Anders asked great questions about how we live, he listened to us and incorporated our concerns into the final designs. The end result is a fabulous house that is perfect our family. Every bit of space works really well. We hope to work with Anders Lasater Architects again in the future and would highly recommend him and his firm to any prospective clients!! - Kristi, Homeowner

Anders Lasater, AIA - Principal
By the time I was 10 years old I knew I'd grow up to be either an architect, or a heavy metal drummer. As fate would have it, the rise of grunge and alternative music in the early Ď90s pushed heavy metal out of the spotlight so I naturally shifted my focus to my second love and went on to secure two degrees in architecture and design theory. Now, with over 28 years experience in architecture, the last 20 practicing custom home design in coastal Orange County, Palm Springs, and Hawaii, I have no regrets, though I still plot my rise through the ranks of musical stardom with my band THUNDERHOSE - much to my wifeís chagrin.

In 2005, after nearly 10 years as the managing associate for Mark Singer Architects in Laguna Beach, I opened the doors to my own firm and have continued my focus on innovative designs for not only residential projects, but also restaurant, retail, and hotel projects.

Prior to launching my practice I served on the faculty of Cal Poly Pomona where I taught architectural design studio for 2 years. I continue to be a guest lecturer and juror for architecture and design classes at Cal Poly Pomona, USC, Cal State Long Beach, California Baptist University, Orange Coast College, and Saddleback College.

Over the last several years I've been invited to speak as an expert panelist or contributor for various professional and media groups including the American Institute of Architects, Houzz.com, Zillow.com, the Orange County Register, and PBS.

As a past member of the Board of Directors for the American Institute of Architects, Orange County, I've served as Design Awards Committee Chair, and Director of Design for 4 years. I currently serve on the Design Review Committee for The Strand at Headlands development in Dana Point, California.

I hold a Master of Architecture degree from UCLA and a Bachelor of Architecture degree, cum laude, from Cal Poly Pomona. Iím a licensed architect in the states of California, Texas, and Hawaii, and a Certified Green Building Professional.

Brandon Herbst, Assoc. AIA - Designer and Project Manager
Brandon first started with ALA in 2010 as an intern while studying architecture at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.† After graduating near the top of his class Brandon came back to a full-time position as Designer and Project Manager and continues to hone a number of impressive skills that bring value and excitement to our firm.

Brandon is a skilled computer modeler, and has a keen understanding of design. It's no surprise that his contributions at ALA have lead to several recent design awards for projects in which he was involved. We are lucky to have him in the office and I'm proud to see him continue his path towards becoming a licensed architect.

Brandon holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and is actively pursuing his architect's license.

Christine Miller Assoc. AIA - Designer and Project Manager
Christine also started with ALA as an intern while studying architecture. During her last two years at Cal Poly, Pomona, Christine spent her summers with ALA sharing the new technologies and design tools she'd learned while at school. This proved to be invaluable and we have adopted many of the tools she shared with us.

Christine is a naturally outgoing person with great communication skills. Her ability to manage her projects and tolerate the rest of us guys in the office is truly remarkable.

Christine holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree, cum laude, from Cal Poly, Pomona, and is actively pursuing her architect's license.

Peter Blake - Design Consultant, Art Placement Consultant
Peter has been a friend and advisor to me for more than 18 years. His influence is evident in many of our recent projects as he continues to inform our work with his uncanny eye for quality design, beauty of form, and a great appreciation for space and light.

It is no surprise that the Peter Blake Gallery in Laguna Beach has been the definitive source for modern and contemporary art in Orange County since opening in 1993 and continues to be one of the most respected galleries in California.

Peterís masterful skills with space and light are most recently evidenced in the collaborative efforts on his new gallery space at 435 Ocean Avenue and our new architectural offices at 384 Forest avenue, Laguna Beach.

Anders Lasater Architects has relocated to a new studio location in the Lumberyard Center, downtown Laguna Beach
Merging art with architecture to create a dynamic work environment our new studio is conceived as an office within a gallery allowing our work to be informed and inspired by the beautiful objects that surround us. Drawing from recent projects such as the Peter Blake Gallery and the Riviera Room where the art takes a leading role in defining the space, our studio is composed as a balance of light, space, color, and form allowing the creative spirit to flourish.
