Anders Lasater Architects

"An architect must be passionate about his work. He should find pleasure in both the smallest detail and the grandest idea. From a modest remodel to a large custom home, I always find the passion in my work: it feeds and nourishes the project from start to finish and ensures a great piece of architecture."

Anders Lasater, AIA cgbp - Principal
When I was 10 years old I knew I would either be an architect or a drummer in a heavy metal band.  The rise of grunge and alternative music in the early ‘90s pushed heavy metal out of the spotlight so I naturally shifted my focus to my second love and went to Cal Poly Pomona to study design.  Now, with over 22 years experience in architecture, (the last 13 practicing custom home design in coastal Orange County, Palm Springs, and Hawaii) I have no regrets and still plot my rise through the ranks of musical stardom much to my wife’s chagrin.

In 2005, after nearly 10 years as the managing associate for Mark Singer Architects in Laguna Beach, I opened the doors to my own firm and have continued my focus on innovative designs for residential and retail projects.

Prior to launching my practice I served on the faculty of Cal Poly Pomona where I taught architectural design studio for 2 years and I continue to be a guest lecturer and juror for architecture and design classes at Cal Poly Pomona, Saddleback College, and Cal State Long Beach.

I hold a Master of Architecture degree from UCLA and a Bachelor of Architecture degree, cum laude, from Cal Poly Pomona.  I’m a licensed architect in the state of California, a member of the American Institute of Architects, and a Certified Green Building Professional.

Peter Blake - Design Consultant, Art Placement Consultant
Peter has been a friend and advisor to me for more than 13 years.  His influence is evident in many of our recent projects as he continues to inform our work with his uncanny eye for quality design, beauty of form, and a great appreciation for space and light.

It is no surprise that the Peter Blake Gallery in Laguna Beach has been the definitive source for modern and contemporary art in Orange County since opening in 1993 and continues to be one of the most respected galleries in California.

Peter’s masterful skills with space and light are most recently evidenced in the collaborative efforts on his new gallery space at 435 Ocean Avenue and our new architectural offices at 384 Forest avenue, Laguna Beach.

David Landells - Design Consultant, Project Manager
David and I met nearly 15 years ago while attending architecture school at Cal Poly Pomona.  We formed a strong friendship and have I’ve continued to work with him on a variety of projects since leaving school.  David has over 15 years experience in the field of architecture and construction and has worked with some of the most prominent firms in California, including LPA, Fluor Corporation, and Mark Singer Architects.

Aside from his work with Anders Lasater Architects, David is also a design instructor at California State University, Long Beach, where he teaches Fundamentals of Design, Furniture Design, and Computer Aided Drafting.

David holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly Pomona.

Jorge Regueiro - Project Manager
Jorge and I also became close friends during our time at Cal Poly Pomona where he excelled with his unique and meticulous design approach.  In his over 20 years experience in the field of architecture, Jorge has worked with a number of leading firms in Southern California specializing in both residential and commercial projects.  His extensive experience with commercial projects adds depth to our work and makes him a valued asset to our team.

Jorge holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly Pomona.

Brandon Herbst - Intern
Brandon recently finished his 5th year of architecture school at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  His studies have allowed him to hone a number of valuable skills that bring value and excitement to our firm. Brandon is a skilled computer modeler, and has a keen understanding of design.  We are lucky to have him in the office.

Maya Taketani - Intern
After nearly a year as our intern, Maya recently left to pursue her graduate degree in architecture at M.I.T., a school of high repute in the Boston area. She's a bright and talented young lady and we know she's got a great future in architecture ahead of her. She'll be missed, but there is always hope that she'll return.
It gets cold in Boston.

Megan Schuller-Donoff  - Administrative Assistant
Megan’s ability to organize the office and tolerate the rest of us is truly remarkable. She’s an invaluable asset to the office and has made the often tedious tasks of day to day administration seem effortless. Having recently finished her undergraduate studies in music at Chapman College we are nervous that she's plotting to leave us for a successful and fulfilling career as a singer rather than staying here to have a successful and fulfilling career in filing.

Anders Lasater Architects has relocated to a new studio location in the Lumberyard Center, downtown Laguna Beach
Merging art with architecture to create a dynamic work environment our new studio is conceived as an office within a gallery allowing our work to be informed and inspired by the beautiful objects that surround us. Drawing from recent projects such as the Peter Blake Gallery and the Riviera Room where the art takes a leading role in defining the space, our studio is composed as a balance of light, space, color, and form allowing the creative spirit to flourish.
